Date and time: 26th February 2025; 14:00 – 14:45 (CET) – Twenty-first webinar: Reviewing the recent progress on the effects of climate extremes and nitrogen deposition on trees, soil, and forest ecosystems
The CLEANFOREST webinar series is hosted by the COST Action’s Young Researchers community for all interested researchers and practitioners, usually during the second and fourth week of every month. We are honored to announce that for the Twenty-first event in the series, we will be joined by Charlotte Angove from the University of Helsinki, Finland, one of the CLEANFOREST STSM Grantees. A summary of her talk is given below.
There is a high expectation of forests in the EU to serve a prominent role in the EU carbon sink, a necessity for meeting EU climate targets. However, they are falling behind targets. To respond to the changing carbon sink dynamics in EU forests, it is essential to navigate forest carbon responses to multiple global change drivers. To help guide this, we have conducted a review of forest carbon responses to global change drivers in a collaboration led by Professor Mana Gharun. The review covers the effects of global change drivers on carbon fluxes, acclimation, and resilience of European forests. It constitutes a product of the CLEANFOREST Working Group 3 (subgroup 1). My contribution to this review has involved a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) to Mana Gharun’s group at the University of Münster to help collaboratively edit the review. In this presentation, I will describe what I did during my STSM and the aspects that the review covers. I will also briefly show an opportunity to contribute to a meta-analysis in Working Group 3, which focuses on the interaction of multiple global change drivers on carbon allocation and stability in forests.
