Mana Gharun is an associate professor of biosphere-atmosphere interaction at the University of Münster in Germany. She obtained her PhD in ecohydrology from the University of Sydney in Australia in 2014. Before starting her appointment at the University of Münster in March 2022, she was a lecturer and senior scientist at the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zürich (2017-2022) and a postdoc in biogeochemistry at the Centre for Carbon, Water, and Food of University of Sydney in Australia (2014-2017). Mana Gharun’s research work focuses on understanding how ecosystems respond to climate extremes (e.g., drought, heatwaves, winter warming, and wildfires) across multiple scales (from individual leaves to an entire ecosystem). Her experiments are set up under natural conditions and she uses non-destructive in-situ approaches such as eddy covariance measurements of greenhouse gases and sensor-based networks combined with modelling techniques to understand the functioning of ecosystems under climate change.
