Dr. Miglena Zhiyanski is Professor and Head of “Forest ecology” Dept. at Forest Research Institute -Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She works as a research expert advising projects related to her expertise in soil science, forest ecology and ecosystem services. She earned her PhD in 2004 at the Forest Research Institute – BAS (Bulgaria) and second PhD in 2006 at the University of Franche-Comte (France). In 2008 she was winning a fellowship by Leverhulme Trust (UK) and was a guest-researcher in the UWS (Paisley), where she was working on urban soils in green infrastructure. In the recent years she is working on the problems related with evaluation of ecosystem services from natural, urban and peri-urban forests and the role of forests in the national nature heritage. Her specialized studied were related with monitoring of forest ecosystems, carbon inventory, sustainable forestry and forest policy.
