Pál Balázs is an environmental engineer (MSc, 2009), he is working as assistant professor at the Institute of Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation of the University of Sopron. During his Ph.D. doctoral studies (finished in 2017), he focused on transboundary landscape changes in Hungarian research areas. In this context, he contributed to the investigation of landscape change processes along the France-German border at the University of Freiburg. He was awarded a one-year scholarship by the German Federal Environmental Foundation, which he spent at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig. In addition to gaining experience abroad and learning a foreign language, he spent the scholarship period expanding his GIS knowledge. He has participated in several national and international projects, including the creation of a NASA-funded historical land cover database for the Carpathian Basin. Main research topics: landscape ecology, ecological network, LCLUC, landscape change, landscape character.
